China is trying to protect its future by limiting the number of western ideas entering into the country and changing customs and beliefs and the way the Chinese people live their lives. The Chinese government is very protective and do not want anything coming into the country that may offend or antagonise the people or the government officials and threaten the way of the government officials.
This is Deja Vu, for, in ancient China, any western ideas and beliefs were not welcomed. China will always have their own culture, but they may need to start being more flexible, as the Chinese people seem to enjoy the new ideas coming from the west, and taking something away may be more antagonising than bringing something new in. The question is, will China become a superpower and protect its culture and way of life? Can they come back from the middle kingdom times when they were gradually weakened by the lack of technological innovation and finally defeated in the anglo-Chinese (or opium) wars of the 19th century? Well, now it seems they can, as the western ideas and innovation are seeping through into China and making the Chinese people fall for these new ideas.
Though they have taken many of the western ideas, they haven’t kept them completely western. For instance, KFC is China’s most popular western store chain, but they changed nearly the whole menu to fit a Chinese diet. Now you can find things like mushroom stew and rice and other typical Chinese foods. China has already started to limit the access of new western ideas coming into the country and they will probably continue to do this to protect their culture in the future. My opinion is that China is afraid that western culture will take over their own, so them limiting the access of certain western things is what they think is defending their culture and keeping it safe, when really they should be taking on these western ideas and try and combine them with their own cultural ideas, such as, in KFC in China they now have pink burgers and black burgers to boost their sale, this is something that China would do, but Americans would be disgusted at this and would not believe they would do something this odd. The Chinese continue to minimise the viewing of certain things that may upset people or things that may go against their culture. China has been moving backwards, in many ways so the have had to catch up by westernising ever so slightly, for chin themselves won't have time to reinvent everything by themselves while catching up.
Chinese people seem to very much enjoying all these new western (mainly American) ideas being brought into the country, this is also teaching people about western culture and the outside world. People in China have now learnt about many things that the Americans value such as, KFC (as mentioned before), skateboarding, clothes, style of buildings, even the religion of Christianity. To conclude, I think China will continue to block things that may be offensive to certain people and will also continue to block any new western ideas that they are afraid will drown their own culture and values. They think they are protecting their culture but limiting a number of western ideas may be the downfall of China one day, which may take them back to the middle kingdom days and China may be weakened and fall again, and continue to go backwards.
According to the International Monetary Fund, China is the world's second largest economy, after the US. This proves just how powerful the country is. Because of China's fast-growing economy, many top professionals and businessmen, from Hong Kong and abroad, visit the mainland regularly. In turn, thousands of rich mainlanders travel abroad for pleasure as well as business. For this reason, business people, shopkeepers and workers alike have recognised the need to learn China's official language, Mandarin. Therefore there is a large chance the beautiful language of Cantonese will die out. We hope that China’s government will preserve Cantonese, and continue to protect all of China’s tradition, architecture and culture. For after all theses are the roots and beginnings of a country, a superpower county.
This is an educated guess and partly my opinion, I hope you agree and I hope you enjoyed.
