At that time, China didn’t have a lot of cultures or religions. The Chinese Communist Party that ruled the nation didn’t even have any religion to follow - they were all atheist, which means they didn’t even believe in the existence of Gods. But it is gradually become tolerant of religions at the present time.

The two important celebrations at that time was the birthday of Confucius. To celebrate, people would pilgrimage - which means travel to a place for sacred or religious purpose - by going to his birthplace. Another popular celebration at that time was the birthday of Guanyin, the goddess of mercy. To celebrate, people go to Taoist Temples in honour of Guanyin.
